Description
CoreScan PRO
Automated Core Imaging, Petrographic Analysis, and Digital Core Documentation System
CoreScan PRO is a powerful automated imaging platform engineered for modern mineral exploration, mining operations, geological research, and core repository management. Designed to digitize drill core samples with exceptional clarity and repeatability, CoreScan PRO enables exploration geologists, mining companies, and geological service laboratories to capture high-resolution digital records of their most valuable subsurface data.
The system is capable of scanning geological core samples directly in core boxes, split cores, or full round cores, allowing drilling programs to document core quickly and consistently without the need for manual photography. Using three axes of automated motion, the system captures large-scale overview imagery of entire core trays while also allowing operators to move seamlessly into high magnification imaging for mineral textures, lithology, fractures, alteration zones, veining, and structural features.
This capability is critical for mineral exploration, resource modeling, geometallurgical analysis, structural geology studies, and long-term digital archiving of drilling campaigns. By converting physical core into detailed digital imagery, CoreScan PRO enables mining companies to build searchable visual databases that can be shared across exploration teams, consultants, and research partners around the world.
Core Imaging and Automated Scanning
CoreScan PRO allows exploration teams to rapidly document rock cores from drilling programs including diamond drilling, exploration drilling, and geotechnical drilling. The automated motion platform moves the camera across the core with micron-level precision, capturing overlapping images that are stitched together into seamless panoramic scans.
These scans allow geologists to analyze:
• lithology changes
• mineralization zones
• structural features
• fractures and veins
• alteration halos
• sedimentary structures
• stratigraphic boundaries
• hydrothermal alteration
• sulfide mineralization
The system is equally suited for gold exploration, copper exploration, nickel exploration, lithium exploration, uranium exploration, rare earth element exploration, and critical mineral exploration programs.
Core samples up to 1 meter in length can be scanned in a single automated sequence, with longer systems available for extended core sections.
Multi-Magnification Geological Imaging
Unlike conventional core scanners that operate at fixed magnifications, CoreScan PRO integrates three axes of automated motion, allowing users to transition between wide overview scans and extremely detailed macro imaging.
This enables geologists and mining service providers to inspect fine mineral grains, ore textures, microstructures, and alteration minerals directly within the digital imagery.
The system supports:
• high-resolution panoramic core scans
• high-magnification mineral texture imaging
• focus stacked imaging for maximum clarity
• digital zoom exploration of mineral features
These capabilities make CoreScan PRO valuable for exploration geologists, mining consultants, academic researchers, petrographers, and geological survey organizations.

Integrated Petrographic Analysis
The Y-axis stage includes an integrated heavy-duty core holder that stabilizes cores during automated imaging.
This stage can also be swapped with the included petrographic analyzer, transforming the system into a fully automated petrographic microscope and thin section imaging platform.
This configuration allows the system to capture thin sections in both plain light and polarized light, enabling detailed analysis of mineral composition, grain structures, and optical properties.
By combining core imaging and petrography in a single system, CoreScan PRO allows mining companies to correlate core-scale geological features with microscopic mineralogical data, improving exploration interpretation and ore body modeling.
Complete Benchtop Geological Imaging Platform
CoreScan PRO functions as a complete benchtop petrographic microscope, slide scanner, and automated core imaging system. The modular scanning platform can accommodate core sections up to 1 meter in length, while extended rail systems allow scanning of longer cores when required.
Available configurations include:
• 1 meter system
• 1.5 meter system
• 2 meter system
• 2.5 meter system
• 3 meter system
This flexibility makes the platform suitable for:
• mining company core libraries
• geological survey institutions
• university geology departments
• mineral exploration companies
• drilling service providers
• mining laboratories and analytical facilities

Macroscopic Solutions provides installation guidance and imaging consultation to ensure the system performs optimally for each geological application.
Optional Fluorescence Imaging
An optional Fluorescence Imaging Kit is available for applications involving hydrocarbon detection, mineral fluorescence, and advanced mineralogical studies.
Fluorescence imaging can reveal geological features that are not visible under standard illumination and is often used in petroleum geology, mineral exploration, and research laboratories.
Future Expansion: Automated 3D Core Modeling
A modular 5-axis core stage is currently under development.
This upgrade will allow cores to be automatically rotated and imaged from multiple angles, enabling the creation of fully interactive 3D photogrammetry models of drill core samples.
These models will allow geologists to digitally inspect cores from every angle, improving structural interpretation, mineral mapping, and geological communication between exploration teams.
