Mark founded Macroscopic Solutions in 2013 after working at the intersection of geoscience, macro photography, microscopy, education, and scientific communication. The original Macropod idea was not only a product concept; it was a practical response to color, resolution, and depth-of-field limitations that made it difficult for researchers and educators to share what they could actually observe.
The company's early Facebook profile described the same goal that still drives the work today: use focus stacking, controlled movement, good optics, and careful capture to produce fully focused, color-accurate, high-resolution images and 3D-ready image sets. That approach can preserve specimen context, reduce destructive preparation, and make technical observations easier for students, collaborators, reviewers, and the public to understand.
