What makes a scientific focus stacking system different from an ordinary camera setup?
A useful workflow coordinates specimen support, stable illumination, camera and optic selection, controlled focus movement, image capture, stacking software, and file handling. The system must match the specimen geometry and required detail; adding software alone does not make the capture repeatable.
Which focus stacking system fits whole specimens versus microscopic structures?
Macropod PRO 3D supports whole specimens and controlled macro work. The Micro Kit adds long-working-distance objectives for smaller features. MacroBox Scanner is designed for broad trays, drawers, and larger flat or uneven subjects. Prepared slides and sections may require a petrographic configuration.
How should the team balance detail and throughput?
Higher magnification and greater depth require more focus positions and processing. Start with the field of view and detail that materially supports the research question, then capture selected areas at higher magnification instead of applying the slowest workflow to every subject.
