Description
Macropod PRO 3D + Micro Kit R6 II Imaging System. Macropod PRO 3D + Micro Kit R6 II Imaging System combines the portable Macropod PRO 3D platform with the Micro Kit objective path for customers who need the full Mitutoyo Plan Apo range, controlled reflected-light imaging, focus stacking, and 3D-ready specimen documentation.
Best Fit
Primary use
Repeatable scientific imaging, focus stacking, 3D photogrammetry capture, and micro-to-macro documentation for specimens, natural-history collections, paleontology, entomology, botany, geology, materials, museum digitization, teaching, and technical research.
Camera path
The Canon EOS R6 Mark II is available for customers who prefer a lower system price, smaller files, faster handling, and a lighter storage or processing load. The R5 remains the preferred choice when maximum resolved detail is the priority.
Objective range
This Micro Kit configuration includes Mitutoyo Plan Apo 2x, 5x, 7.5x, 10x, 20x, 50x, and 100x objectives, covering the full 2x-100x range. The Canon RF 70-200mm is used at 200mm as the tube-lens path for infinity-corrected Mitutoyo objectives.
Ordering and procurement
Prices are published for planning and institutional procurement. Most system orders proceed by submitted purchase order or quote review; insured shipping is calculated from the buyer’s delivery address before acceptance.
Common Applications
- High-magnification focus stacking
- Mitutoyo long-working-distance objective imaging
- Small specimens, fibers, scales, surfaces, minerals, slides, and manufactured parts
- Micro-to-macro comparison images for teaching, research, and publication

Scientific Optics Included
- Mitutoyo Plan Apo 2x
- Mitutoyo Plan Apo 5x
- Mitutoyo Plan Apo 7.5x
- Mitutoyo Plan Apo 10x
- Mitutoyo Plan Apo 20x
- Mitutoyo Plan Apo 50x
- Mitutoyo Plan Apo 100x
This Micro Kit configuration includes Mitutoyo Plan Apo 2x, 5x, 7.5x, 10x, 20x, 50x, and 100x objectives, covering the full 2x-100x range. The Canon RF 70-200mm is used at 200mm as the tube-lens path for infinity-corrected Mitutoyo objectives.
Field of View Guide
| Broad context | Canon 24-105mm is useful for handheld field work, whole-sample documentation, labels, and large context images. It can be removed from controlled-station builds when field photography is not needed. |
|---|---|
| Macro detail | Canon RF 100mm Macro and Canon MP-E 65mm cover close-up and 1x-5x macro work before the system moves into Mitutoyo objective imaging. |
| Objective imaging | Mitutoyo 2x and 5x provide the standard Macropod PRO objective path. Micro Kit configurations add 7.5x, 10x, 20x, 50x, and 100x for smaller fields of view. |
| Tube lens requirement | The Canon RF 70-200mm is a telephoto lens, but for Mitutoyo objectives it is required at 200mm as the infinity-corrected tube-lens path. |
Field of view and resolving power across the Macropod optical range
This reference figure uses the same 5 mm target as the system moves from whole-sample documentation into objective-level inspection. The machined grooves are spaced 100 microns apart, making scale, resolution, and field of view easier to compare.

Dolphin vertebrae 3D model
This approximately 20 cm wide dolphin vertebrae model shows how Macropod image sets can become textured 3D assets when the capture sequence is processed through Agisoft Metashape.
Use the viewer to rotate, zoom, and inspect the actual 3D model reconstructed from the image set.
From controlled images to an interactive model
- Capture a consistent, overlapping image set with the configured Macropod PRO 3D, Canon R5, and controlled lighting.
- Focus-stack individual viewpoints when the subject has more depth than one exposure can hold.
- In Agisoft Metashape, align images, build depth-based geometry, inspect the model, create texture, scale it, and export the required files.
Macropod PRO 3D supplies controlled specimen capture; the Micro Kit extends fine-detail work with current Mitutoyo objectives. Agisoft Metashape turns the image set into the reconstruction.

Scale-bar calibration reference
Micro Kit workflows are commonly documented with the 5 mm Calibration Scale for Scientific Image Measurement, calibrated to 0.1 mm across a 5 mm range, so customers can create accurate scale bars and measurement references during capture or post-processing.
