The MicroCore is an automated scanning platform built to automatically image small shafted sections of tree core at various depths and diameters. The system stabilizes the core sample and allows the camera to combine focus stacking capabilities with panoramic photography in order to produce crystal clear results without a human presence. The system includes the fluorescence kit.
The innovative lighting configuration allows for completely balanced images using methods from reflected light microscopy. The lighting configuration simulates illumination methods used by the Macropod PRO 3D line. In this case, flashes are strategically positioned behind the sample in order to reflect diffused light onto the surface of the sample. This completely eliminates the requirement for polarizers and balances the final image to be free from glare and other artifacts common in microscopy and flash photography. The Micro Kit is a Macropod accessory that includes an assortment of high quality long working distance objectives at 10x, 20x, 50x and 100x magnification. These objectives are to be used in conjunction with the Canon EF 70-200 mm telephoto lens. They are easy to use and produce extremely detailed images at high magnification. These objectives produce compatible results to a microscope achieving 100x, 200x, 500x and 1000x if you consider the infinity corrected 10x eyepiece, which the 70-200 mm lens performs as.
Basic Support is provided to all of Macroscopic Solutions customers for a limited period of time. These requests are handled over the phone, by email or by web video. They are available for 30 days after the date of purchase, there is a fee associated with assistance related to training beyond the 30 day time period. For those seeking additional, on-site and hands-on training and support, please consider purchasing the extended,premium or international support package.

International support includes all insured delivery fees and a 3 day training program for the client. The client can invite affiliated faculty, students and other associates for one-on-one training sessions. These trains sessions allow a wide range of Macropod users to become specialists at imaging and 3D modeling the specimens they regularly work with.
Macroscopic Solutions will send a technician approximately 1 month after the date of delivery. This allows the client to gather some experience prior to the on-site training, giving the client further insight into the types of questions they should be asking.
Macroscopic Solutions technicians maintain close contact after on-site training occurs to ensure proper handling and use of the system.

A trained professional from Macroscopic Solutions will visit the customers location subsequent to delivery in order to describe the capabilities and train all colleagues wishing to use Macroscopic Solutions systems. This is one of two provided on site visitations included with Premium Support. Support by phone, email and web video is extended from a 30 day period to a 3 year period for any customers acquiring immediate assistance. A second onsite visitation is also included with the Premium Support package. This is helpful when components of Macroscopic Solutions systems are upgraded throughout time or the customer has an influx of new colleagues, employees, students, etc. to train that were not present during the initial training and support session.

A specialty lens designed for extreme close-up imaging, the MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro Photo from Canon lets you render subjects at up to five-times life-size magnification with a minimum focusing distance of 9.4″. Dedicated solely to macro applications, this lens’s unique design employs a floating elements system to maintain quality throughout the focusing range and one ultra-low dispersion element helps to control color fringing and chromatic aberrations for high clarity and color accuracy. A Super Spectra coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting for greater contrast. This 65mm f/2.8 is strictly manual focus operation only and features a removable rotating tripod collar for improved stability when working atop a tripod. Additionally, the front of the lens is designed to accept an optional Macro Ring Lite or Macro Twin Lite for greater, more even illumination of close-up subjects.
The Excitation Filters will convert the Macropod into a system that is capable of capturing fluorescence. They will work with any camera utilizing the MT-24 EX Dual twin lite flash by Canon. It is recommended that the Macropod be used for magnifications greater than 5x due to the reduced levels of light being emitted.
Blue excitation fluorescence filters are designed with a narrow passband excitation range (20 nanometers) in order to minimize autofluorescence and photobleaching. The longpass barrier (emission) filter is capable of transmitting signals from green, yellow, and red fluorophores that have significant absorption in the upper blue wavelength region. The filters have a longpass dichromatic mirror with a cut-on wavelength of 505 nanometers.
