The MicroCore is an automated scanning platform built to automatically image small shafted sections of tree core at various depths and diameters.  The system stabilizes the core sample and allows the camera to combine focus stacking capabilities with panoramic photography in order to produce crystal clear results without a human presence.  The system includes the fluorescence kit.

The innovative lighting configuration allows for completely balanced images using methods from reflected light microscopy.  The lighting configuration simulates illumination methods used by the Macropod PRO 3D line.  In this case, flashes are strategically positioned behind the sample in order to reflect diffused light onto the surface of the sample.  This completely eliminates the requirement for polarizers and balances the final image to be free from glare and other artifacts common in microscopy and flash photography.  See the images below for examples.
